Removal of the smear layer by passive and continuous ultrasonic irrigation: a scanning electron microscopy study

چکیده

Background: Due to the anatomical complexity of root canal system, irrigation plays an essential role in endodontics. This vitro study was sought compare removal smear layer (RSL) promoted by conventional (CI), passive ultrasonic (PUI) and continuous (CUI) with 17% EDTA, using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Material Methods: Forty single-rooted human mandibular canines were instrumented randomly assigned four groups (n=10), according protocol aiming RSL: CG (control group) —conventional distilled water; CI— EDTA; PUI —passive CUI— EDTA. Hemisections from each sample obtained, images third (cervical, middle apical) captured at 1000 X magnification SEM. Three previously calibrated blinded evaluators classified RSL, criteria proposed Torabinejad et al.: small or no (all dentinal tubules clean open); 2 = moderate (no on surface canal, but contained debris); 3 dense (covering practically all entrances). Statistical analysis performed Kruskal-Wallis Bonferroni tests (p<0.05). Results: Overall, CUI cervical thirds showed better RSL rates, compared other methods thirds, respectively More specifically, results CG, CI (p<0.05), whereas not significantly different group. Conclusion: most effective method for RSL.

Efficiency of Different Endodontic Irrigation and Activation Systems in Removal of the Smear Layer: A Scanning Electron Microscopy Study

Introduction This in vitro study was designed to evaluate and compare different endodontic irrigation and activation systems for removal of the intracanal smear layer. Methods and Materials Forty recently extracted, non-carious human intact single rooted premolars were selected and divided into five groups (n=10) according to the root canal irrigation systems; syringe and needle irrigation (C...

Smear layer removal and canal cleanliness using different irrigation systems (EndoActivator, EndoVac, and passive ultrasonic irrigation): field emission scanning electron microscopic evaluation in an in vitro study.

INTRODUCTION The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of different irrigating methods in removing the smear layer at 1, 3, 5, and 8 mm from the apex of endodontic canals. METHODS Sixty-five extracted single-rooted human mandibular premolars were decoronated to a standardized length of 16 mm. Specimens were shaped to ProTaper F4 (Dentsply Maillefer, Ballaigues, Switzerland) ...

Effectiveness of different irrigation systems on smear layer removal: A scanning electron microscopic study

OBJECTIVES To evaluate effectiveness of the apical negative pressure irrigation (EndoVac), passive ultrasonic irrigation (PUI), and conventional needle irrigation (CI) systems on smear layer (SR) removal. MATERIALS AND METHODS Sixty single-rooted canines were prepared using NiTi rotary files and subjected to different irrigation regimens: EndoVac with NaOCl (Group 1) or NaOCl/EDTA (Group 2); ...

the effect of preparation size on efficacy of smear layer removal; a scanning electron microscopic study

introduction: enlargement of the root canal may potentially affect efficient smear layer (sl) removal. the aim of the present in vitro study was to compare sl removal following canal preparation with two different sizes/tapers by means of scanning electron microscopy (sem). methods and materials: a total of 50 extracted human mandibular premolars were decoronated. the teeth were randomly divide...

a scanning electron microscope study on the effect of an experimental irrigation solution on smear layer removal

introduction: the aim of this in vitro study was to evaluate the effect of an experimental irrigation solution, containing two different concentrations of papain, tween 80, 2% chlorhexidine and edta, on removal of the smear layer. methods and materials: thirty-six single-rooted teeth were divided into two experimental groups ( n =12) and two positive and negative control groups of six. the cana...
